Top 3 must visit waterfront bars in Melbourne

Wednesday April 5th, 2017

There are some amazing waterfront bars in Melbourne and some of the best happen to be situated on South Wharf.

The bars all allow you to sip on your favourite drink and take in both the waterfront views and some amazing people watching… what? We all do it.

Having the pleasure of drinking at all these venues I can say with a hand to my chest and solemnly swear that these venues are all top notch fun. In no particular order, put these on your waterfront bar list. Heck, if you’re game, you could bar hop to all of these in one night.

1. The Boatbuilders Yard

Waterfront bars Melbourne

The Boatbuilders Yard or Boaties is one of the biggest bars in Melbourne. It’s HUGE. Seriously big. The bar is run like a well-oiled machine and serves up some of the coldest beers going around. Even with its size it still pulls a decent crowd on most nights. Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s down at Boaties are the big ones, so if you’re around on those days and like to mingle with the peeps they’re the choice days.

Whether you want to sit inside or take in the awesome waterfront views, The Boatbuilders Yard is a place you want to check out. It’s family friendly, pet-friendly, couples friendly and definitely group friendly.

Don’t worry, it’s not just all drinks, they have some cracking food, anything from sit down meals, share meals to bite-sized meals you can eat with one hand whilst closely guarding your drink with the other.

2. The Common Man

Riverside venues and bars

Set back just a bit away from the waterfront, Common Man also hosts an outdoor garden which they change up most months to keep the Melbournians guessing. Last month was an open air cinema and next month will be a tiki style bar serving up delicious pineapple cocktails all night long.

Common Man is a whole lot of fun, tasty drinks + a kick arse menu to go along with it. This is a must attend. Keep an eye out on what’s happening in the garden and rally the troops for a night out down at Common Man.

3. The General Assembly

Venue by the Yarra

A more upmarket bar that has 49, yes 49 beer taps. If you love your beers, this beer tap list will impress you. Don’t worry if you’re not a beer connoisseur, as the bar staff at General Assembly know their beers and can guide you through it all. We don’t recommend trying them all in one sitting unless you’re David Boon.

The General Assembly is situated right on the waterfront, has spectacular views and is super clean and stylish. It’s more upmarket and the crowd shows that. Great after work.
