Thursday November 9th, 2017

Muggles and wizards alike prepare to be dazzled by a magical event unlike no other. Starting on Thursday 16th of November the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will be presenting John Williams’ enchanting score from the first two Harry Potter films.

You can experience your favourite wizard’s adventures with a live symphony orchestra along with moments from the wonder of the Harry Potter universe soaring across the big screen in high-definition.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hit cinemas in 2001 and was nominated for a slew of awards including the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets continued the adventures of Harry and his friends in their second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The second instalment leads us deeper into the wizardry world and the identity of Lord Voldemort who will become Harry’s arch nemesis.

Williams’ music helped create an incredibly mysterious and wondrous atmosphere and has been rewarded handsomely for it. Along with five Academy Awards (he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney) he boasts a collection of Grammys, Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA awards. He is also well known for composing music for other classic films including:

  • Jaws
  • Star Wars
  • Superman
  • Schindler’s List
  • Born on The Fourth of July
  • Catch Me If You Can
  • Home Alone
  • Munich

J.K. Rowling’s popular series of novels which touch both children and adults tell the story of Harry Potter, a boy who discovers on his eleventh birthday that he’s the orphaned son of powerful wizard parents and wields unique magical powers of his own.

He is called upon to enrol at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards where he meets several friends who become loyal allies and aid him in his path to discovering the truth about his parents’ mysterious deaths.

Conducted and founded by Justin Freer the MSO are set to bring another dimension to the much-loved films.
