Juniperlooza 2017 has arrived

Tuesday November 14th, 2017

The last two years Riverland and Pilgrim on the banks of the Yarra have hosted Australia’s first ever gin festival – Juniperlooza. Thanks to a combination of great weather, great people and of course immensely great gin, the event proved to be a huge success and this year’s event looks to be even bigger.

Those lucky enough to snap up a ticket are in for a real treat thanks to an impressive showcase of 18 independent Australian and international gin producers.

Producers on show include:

  • Adelaide Hills
  • Archie Rose
  • Four Pillars
  • Kangaroo Island Spirits
  • Patient Wolf
  • Melbourne Gin Company
  • Forty Spotted
  • West Winds Gin
  • Ounce Gin
  • Poor Toms

The festival is moving down river to The Boatbuilders Yard on South Wharf, a location wrapped up in Melbourne’s maritime history. There is actually a fascinating connection between the sea and gin as in the sixteenth century, sailors were paid via alcohol rations.

To ensure the alcohol was pure, they created a mixture of gin and gunpowder that was set alight. So, the bigger the blaze, the better the booze and bigger bang for buck.

Two gin-based drinks will be featured: a classic gin and tonic, and a signature gin cocktail that will enthusiastically stimulate your taste buds. Adding to the vibe will be entertainment, including DJs and quirky performers from wondrous origins.

We can guarantee that all the gin served on South Wharf is real!

The event sold out in just weeks of tickets going on sale and there are over 400 people on the wait list that can’t get in so don’t feel bad if you missed the boat. However, there are still several reasons to get into the spirit of the occasion.

Just next door is General Assembly who boasts a great range of gins and beers (17 on tap). Stay for a meal and kick on later to Boaties where Juniperlooza will begin to wind down.

The whole South Wharf area will be absolutely buzzing with energy and exciting things to do. Around the corner at the exhibition centre you can find something a little more risqué by visiting Sexpo.

Along with the myriad of different stalls and exhibits you can expect to see the world famous Amateur Strip, All Male Revue, fetish demonstrations and all your favourite stars of the screen. There will be a prevalent retro theme featured at this year’s event so make sure you bring along some flares and extra hairspray.
