Polly Woodstock Family Day

Friday December 29th, 2017

Gather your family members and take a wander down to the Polly Woodside on Sunday January 7th for a special event on our old iron-hulled girl! Come aboard the ship for a fun tour and discover what life was like for a sailor on such a vessel sailing the vast oceans.

Now a part of the National Trust and a permanent attraction of South Wharf, The Polly Woodside was built in Belfast all the way back in 1885. The three-masted cargo vessel was commissioned to carry wheat and coal between England and South America but now stands as a reminder of the areas strong maritime history.

The ship provides a welcoming site when entering South Wharf and has become a great place for schools and families to visit.

Families of all ages and sizes are welcome to enjoy a day of art and craft, pirate activities, music, food stalls and history. During the afternoon people are encouraged to wander around the majestic tall ship and learn about life on the open seas through the detailed maritime gallery on display.

Entry for Children will be free and parking discounted by 50% at DFO South Wharf on the day for those who participate in the festivities. If you plan on travelling to the area via public transport, the best way is via tram along Spencer or Clarendon streets, then a short stroll along the Yarra to the dock.

Pirate Sundays Ahoy!

The first Sunday of every month is Pirate Day so bring along your little buccaneers for a day of fun information and swashbuckling action. The first treasure hunt of the day begins at 11am and kicks off a whole afternoon of activities.

Children get to ring the bell, scrub the decks, participate in pirate games and arts and crafts activities. Pirate Sundays is a regular fixture of the Polly Woodside so check their official site for future dates if you are planning something special for a birthday or school excursion.
