With my father in town for the weekend, I planned a boys weekend which meant footy, hot dogs & beer.
Bulldogs vs North Melbourne was at Etihad Stadium, so I wanted to pick a venue within walking distance from the game with a good offering. Looking at the venue options on South Wharf, Munich Brauhaus was an obvious choice for this manly night.
This venue is huge and it was almost full, friendly staff seated and served us and served us delicious bavarian beer. We were thinking the food might be pricey but to our surprise the food is reasonably priced, understanding that, it’s obvious as to why this place was packed. We were lucky enough to score a seat in their outdoor, undercover area. This was a great spot looking over the water & people watching (what we all do it) along the South Wharf boardwalk. Being a huge fan of wheat beer I opted for a pint of Hefeweizen & the rest of the boys also went for the Bavarian imports. The staff beer knowledge was tops and they explained all the different beer options, definitely a venue for beer nerds or casual drinkers alike.
The Brauhaus has plenty of options on the menu, I would say it takes one beer to decide what you are after food wise. We opted for some value options, on the back of the menu under the “Burgers & Sandwiches.” The burger is $10 & the hot dog $12. Considering the price, we were impressed, including my Dad who is definitely in the “fussy eater” category. I would highly recommend my choice of the “Chillin’ Wagyu Dog.” The Wagyu beef has so much flavour & it’s topped with a generous amount of BBQ Sauce, shredded cheddar & jalapeño. We also shared some fries & aioli just to aid in the drinking.
The venue had a variety of visitors from footy fans like us, young families & tourists. Plenty of people where sampling the “Crafty Beer Paddle” which is great if you are not sure what beer you’ll like, or you just want sample the range. For $13.50 it’s great value and perfect for a first time visitor. I couldn’t write about Munich Brauhaus without mentioning their beer steins. Had we not had a football game to attend, Bavarian beer in steins would have been rolling all night. Giving you that authentic Oktoberfest experience.
After a feed and just the right amount of beer we paid our bill and made our way over the bridge to Etihad Stadium to watch North Melbourne give the Bulldogs a scare but the reigning premiers were just too good. It was a really competitive match to seal of a great boys day. South Wharf is definitely my new go to for pre drinks for Etihad Stadium games. PROST!
