Celebrate All Things Australian

Tuesday January 23rd, 2018

Australia Day can be celebrated in a myriad of different ways from a humble backyard BBQ or beer on the porch to a day out at the tennis with close friends and family.

One of my favourite things to do was pop by a friend’s place and listen to the Hottest 100 but things do change and this could be the best opportunity to start a new tradition involving us.

If you are in Melbourne a great way to start the day is a tram ride through the city. The tram has been an essential part of our city since the cable trams of the 1870s and is still a key part of local culture.

Jump on the 96 which takes you right through the city and stops right out from of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Stroll alongside the Yarra and enjoy a bunch of great events being held during the day.

Enjoy live local Australian Music in style and comfort at Plus 5

Join us on our riverside terrace and down a few drinks at our pop-up bar while relaxing to some live and local music. The tunes will begin in the afternoon and play right into the night so you can make a whole day out of it at Plus 5.

  • Pop-Up Cooper’s Bar $6 Schooners until 6pm
  • All local Australian Bottled beers $8 until 6pm
  • Live local Music 2-5pm and 7-10pm

BBQ along the riverside at Meat Market

Celebrate fun Australia Day with stunning riverside views and a barbecued banquet at South Wharf’s Meat Market.

From noon every day across the long weekend, Meat Market will be firing up the barbeque to serve up some Aussie favourites, including prawns, chicken, chargrilled beef, and kangaroo. Along with some classic sides (beetroot salad, Meat Market slaw and potato salad), the menu will also feature the true blue Aussie Burger.

Visit the Common Man lawn and celebrate the Australian way

From noon our comfy riverside space will be transformed into a ‘true blue’ piece of turf, full of activities and attractions for the whole family to enjoy.

In the background, we will have the tennis playing on our giant screen as you kick back in the sun. Our Jim Beam meat smoker will be at full-throttle cooking up an Aussie feast with spit roast, barbeque and smoked meats while offering Pimms, Giesen specials and Heineken 3.

Celebrate all things Australian

Bring out your best green and gold outfit for this special day, and join in on the celebrations the only way we know how.
